State Government Billion Dollar Saving Goes Missing
2 July 2013
Greens WA spokesperson on Energy policy, Robin Chapple MLC, wonders where the $1 billion saved from the Energy portfolio has gone?
“In his first public announcement as Energy Minister, Mr Nahan boasted that the state government had made savings of $1 billion in the Energy portfolio.
“A series of questions from me in Parliament has finally forced an admission that the government can give no justification to back this claim – which leads me to conclude that the trumpeted saving is an illusion.

“The million or so metered premises on the Western Power network who get their next power bill shortly – containing this week’s hike in state government utility charges – might think that their $1,000 share of the lost $1 billion would be quite handy.
“On top of the ever-increasing tally of wasted taxpayer millions in the Muja debacle, and the revelation of massive gas price increases around the corner – this has been a sorry period for WA energy policy”, Mr Chapple concluded.
