“It has been incorrectly reported in The West Australian that ‘The Greens’ introduced a motion to disallow these regulatory amendments in the Legislative Council last night,” Mr. Chapple said.
“The disallowance was not introduced by The Greens. The disallowance was introduced by me in my capacity as Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee Delegated Legislation which is an apolitical committee of review.”
“The purpose of the Committee is to ensure that subsidiary legislation – such as regulations – are in accord with the law. It does not recommend disallowances unless it has cause to do so under its purview.”
“In my capacity as Deputy Chair, it is my responsibility to introduce disallowances recommended by the Committee into the Legislative Council. This is not a responsibility that has anything to do with The Greens.”
“It is therefore incorrect for The West Australian to assume that the Greens brought on this disallowance, or had anything to do with formulating this motion.”
