Greens MP praises WA Police Union over end of life choices legislation support

Tuesday, 6th March 2018

Support for end of life choices legislation in WA by the Police Union president has been welcomed by Greens MLC Robin Chapple.

Mr Chapple, who serves on the WA Parliament’s Joint Select Committee on End of Life Choices and has twice introduced bills on the matter, has long been an advocate for end of life choices legislation.

“I am very pleased to see the Police Union come forward and support the introduction of end of life choices legislation. This is about providing choice to people who are suffering a terminal illness to make the decision to end their life in relative comfort with family and friends around them.

“As the Police Union president Mr Tilbury noted, it is often first responders who come face to face with suicide, as well as family members and loved ones.

“The Greens are committed to end of life choices legislation, and there is significant public support for it, so we hope to see changes to WA law to allow for choice as those with a terminal illness reach the end of their life.”
